2024 Gamay Noir, Mammoth Rock Vineyard

A new red expression of Mammoth Rock. Gamay brings plenty of natural energy and generosity, but what interests us here is the structure and complexity the vineyard adds to it. The result is vivid and lifted, with enough depth to keep revealing itself as it opens in the glass.

Winemaking Notes:

100% Whole Cluster and fermented indigenously in a concrete tank. Pressed gently and put into neutral Demi-muid/228L barrels for 2+ years Sur lie. Bottled with minimal sulfur addition just prior to bottling and unfined/unfiltered.

Vintage Notes:

2023 was an exceptionally cool and mild growing season at Mammoth Rock, with a long season shaped by coastal fog, wind, and delayed ripening. Gamay was one of the earlier varieties to come in, arriving around the same time as Sauvignon Blanc. For Matt, the challenge of this site is part of what gives Gamay more than simple juiciness and brightness, bringing structure and complexity into the wine as well.
